Lakshmi to launch a new fragrance line?




According to reliable sources, Manchu Lakshmi will release a perfume named after her next month.

Call it the sweet smell of success. After working relentlessly towards making her mark in Telugu filmdom, actor-producer Lakshmi Manchu, is now all set to launch her own fragrance line. Yes, the lovely lady joins the elite group of actors who have their own fragrance. According to reliable sources, Lakshmi will be launching a perfume named after her at a luxury expo to be held in the city next month. When contacted, the actor remained tightlipped, saying, "Not ready to talk about it yet."

Never mind then, that the actor can't divulge much. But one thing's for sure —Tollywood can sure be proud as one of their own has taken the perfumed route to fame. Something even the Kareenas and Katrinas of Bollywood can't boast of. Here is a look at some of the elite actors from the country who boast of their own fragrance line.

Amitabh Bachchan: When it comes to setting a trend, no one but the dapper and suave Amitabh Bachchan can do it better. A trendsetter in every way, Big B stormed the market in 2002 with a line of perfumes for men and women, produced by a popular French brand. Called Amitabh B, the fragrance was an instant hit in the market and continues to be so.

Shilpa Shetty: This is no mean feat. The only Indian actress to have a perfume is Shilpa Shetty. The actor cashed in on the success of her Bigg Brother participation in the UK by launching her own line in 2007, named S2, which stands for her initials (pronounced 'S Square'). Within two weeks of hitting the market, Shilpa's perfume reached No. 3 in the UK fragrance charts!

Shah Rukh Khan: King Khan sure has a nose for success. The actor launched his perfume, Tiger Eyes, in 2005 amid much fanfare. Produced by a French brand, the perfume encapsulates the properties of the birthstone Tiger Eyes, which in turn claims to promote optimism, psychic ability and intuition. Whatever it may be, the men and women's line was grabbed by consumers all over, who wanted a bit of SRK all over them.

Arjun Rampal: Bollywood's Greek God is only the third actor in Indian filmdom to have a perfume line. Titled Alive, the fragrance was launched early this year after much delays, trials and negotiations. Post short listing a few of his fave fragrances, the actor threw a 'perfume party' for his high profile B-Town friends, who unanimously selected two, which went into production. Propelled by the excitement, Arjun plans to take his range forward in the years to come.

Lata Mangeshkar: Surprise, surprise. The lady with maximum number of timeless melodies has a perfume named after her, titled Lata Mangeshkar.The signature fragrance mixes around 78 ingredients for a scent.
